In an interesting article on the BBC news website today Stapely Care Home in Liverpool is trialling a scheme which originated in Norway whereby residents living with dementia use exercise bikes and videos to enable residents to go on virtual cycling trips to locations around the world. It is well-known that physical and mental exercise is good for us all, but this is further evidence, perhaps, that exercise and keeping the mind active is particularly important to help dementia patients'  general health and wellbeing.   

With an ageing population and issues around dementia seemingly on the rise, initiatives like this will undoubtedly become the 'norm' and may help to stave off some of the disputes that often arise in relation to the elderly and dementia patients alike.
